SECANTS
South of England Computational and Algorithmic Number Theory Seminars
Second Meeting
Saturday 2 March 1996
Goldsmiths College
11.00-12.00 P. Voutier
"Complete solutions of families of Thue equations
using the hypergeometric method"
In this talk, I discuss application of the
hypergeometric method to the complete solution of
Thue equations and inequalities.
13.30-14.00 C. Castano-Bernard
"Computations on ramified Heegner points"
I will be concerned with the fixed points of $w\sb N$ on $X\sb 0(N)$,
$N$ prime, and some properties of their sum on the 1-dimensional
factors of $J\sb 0(N)$.
14.00-15.00 C. Smyth
"The integer transfinite diameter of intervals"
15.15-16.15 J. McKee
"Interpolating the quadratic sieve"
A`new' factoring method which is quite practical for
smallish numbers, and shares with SQUFOF the feature that
most of the computations involve numbers with about half the
bits of the number to be factored.
