If you are already familiar with this mathematics there then there is no need for you to study the Mathematics Unit. If you are not familiar with this basic mathematics then you should use the Mathematics Unit as a resource that you study at the same time as you study the other units on this module. Note that you must be familiar with all the mathematics in the Mathematics Unit by the time that we get to the study of public key algorithms (around Week 6).
It is strongly recommended that you visit the Mathematics Unit as soon as possible in order to find out how much of it you need to study. At the start of the Mathematics Unit you will find a full explanation of what it contains and some guidelines on how and when to study the relevant material.
As further support, we will also be running Mathematics Tutorials on Wednesdays between 12.00 and 13.00 (HLT2). These are meant to be a supplement but not an alternative to studying the Mathematics Unit. Please come along to these if you have questions arising from your study of the Mathematics Unit.
