Epic cycle ride by academic raises £4,000 for Cancer Research

Dr Keith Mayes, Director of the ISG Smart Card Centre at Royal Holloway, University of London, has completed a solo unsupported cycle ride between Land’s End and John O’Groats – covering more than 1,000 miles.

Dr Mayes took 14 days to complete the epic journey and covered an average of 75 miles each day. He said, “Carrying all my luggage, tools and equipment made the bike quite heavy and the first few days were gruelling, however after a while I got into the swing of things. Arriving at John O’Groats was a great feeling.”

The trip was to raise money for Cancer Research UK; and Hungerford Round Table agreed to match the direct fundraising up to a further £2,000, and resulted in Dr Mayes raising a minimum of £4,000.
