thumb We are very pleased to announce that Dr. Keith Mayes, director of Information Security Group’s Smart Card Centre, has been awarded a prestigious IET Fellowship. The Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) awards fellowships to researchers and industrialist who demonstrate successful leadership and outstanding services in the field of engineering and technology before a panel of IET members.

In other Smart Card Centre news, the newly appoint Fellow, Dr. Keith Mayes, is leading a team of SCC/ISG experts in a counter expertise analysis of the Dutch OV-Chipkaart system on behalf of the Dutch government. This is in response to some recently published attacks on Mifare Classic smart cards, on which the OV-Chipkaart is based. The SCC/ISG is proud to have been selected from a group of some of the leading European research institutes. The public report from the analysis is due to be released in early April 2008.

Another responsibility of the Smart Card Centre is to run the popular Smart Cards/Tokens Security and Applications module on the ISG’s M.Sc. in Information Security. We are pleased to announce that the two lecturers of this course, Dr. Keith Mayes and Dr. Kostas Markantonakis, have recently published their textbook for the course. The volume, entitled Smart Cards, Tokens, Security and Applications, is published by Springer-Verlag as part of their security and cryptology series.
