ISF Information Security Survey

Information Security ForumThe ISG has become an academic member of the Information Security Forum (ISF). We are collaborating with the ISF on a number of projects. As part of this activity, the ISG is giving support to the ISF in its study of information security governance frameworks and the measurement of effectiveness. In the first instance, the ISF is collecting data via an on-line survey, designed to obtain qualitative feedback from information security managers and CISOs. The data gained from this initial exercise will be used to guide follow-on research.

ISG academics to attend New Security Paradigms Workshop

loginscreenAcademics from the ISG will present two papers at the special invitation-only New Security Paradigms Workshop in Marin County in September 2011. The underpinning philosophy of this workshop is to encourage new directions in information security and provide support to develop the communication of those new directions to more traditional security communities.

ISG Administrator rocks in ITV documentary

RHULITV’s hit documentary “The Choir That Rocks” follows the biggest contemporary choir in Britain and their preparation for the biggest performance of their lives as they attempt to fill the 10,500-seat Wembley Arena. The Information Security Group is proud that its Administrator, Emma Mosley, is part of the Guildford Rock Choir. The final episode of the documentary airs tonight, Thursday 30th June 2011 at 9pm on ITV1.

VOME releases videos on privacy related issues

vome logoThe Visualisation and Other Methods of Expression (VOME) project is releasing one video per week for the next eight weeks. Each individual film is a specific social commentary on a privacy related topic developed by an artist for one of our workshops. Our artists are from a variety of genres, and all participated in our “What does Privacy Look, Feel and Sound Like?” workshop, so look out for some interesting and thought provoking film clips.

The ISG Says Goodbye to Dr. Alex Dent

Dr. Alex DentAt the end of June, the ISG will be saying goodbye to Dr. Alex Dent. Alex is best know for his fast-paced lectures in Standards and Evaluation Criteria and for his highly-respected research into public-key algorithms and protocols. He leaves us for a position as a Security Engineer for Qualcomm in San Diego.
